At weddings, guests often participate in throwing confetti or using tools that shoot out colorful paper scraps to celebrate the newlyweds. These traditions are considered romantic and create a festive atmosphere on the special day. Have you ever wondered where this custom originated from?

The tradition of throwing confetti at weddings actually originates from Italy during the Middle Ages. Guests would sprinkle small, colorful candies over the couple to express their well wishes. However, this became impractical and the custom was eventually replaced with throwing shredded confetti of the same shape. This gesture remained a popular way to congratulate and bless the newlyweds.

In the 1980s and 1990s in our country, it was customary to spread candy during weddings as a symbol of the sweetness of the newlyweds' life together. This tradition was known as "sprinkling happy candy". However, unlike the modern version where guests shower candy on the couple, the newlyweds would hand out the candy to their guests, who would then grab as much as they could. Despite the passage of time, the well wishes and blessings from loved ones remain the same, thus demonstrating the timelessness of this tradition. While the method of candy distribution may have evolved, the underlying sentiment remains constant. Ultimately, bestowing blessings on others is a timeless and universal concept that will continue to endure over time.
